Geocoins are a game within a game! Various
organizations and individuals mint "geocoins" then sell them to other
cachers and release them into caches. Many (but not all) geocoins are
trackable on geocaching.com, where their journeys can be tracked from
cache to cache (or cacher to cacher). Trackable coins have an icon associated with them, and some people even like to collect the icons.

are many hundreds of different geocoins in existence. My
collection focuses on personal geocoins
(coins with a geocacher's name, or a team name). However, I find it
impossible not to collect other coins that I find cool, interesting,

 Wow! My very own geocoin! I can hardly believe it, but here it is. I decided to make my first personal coin a non-trackable trade-only coin. That means I will never sell them. I only made 150 of these antique silver/black nickel numbered coins, and that's all there'll ever be of this particular issue.

 Danoshimano is participating in the great Around The World In 80 Caches geocoin game! The racing geocoin was released in Barrie on December 16, 2006 and has 380 days to complete as many feats as possible to earn points. You can view the official race ladder HERE and the racing coin page is HERE.

Geocoin Icon Collection |

Geocoins that can be tracked on geocaching.com have a unique tracking number on them, and they also have an icon that shows up on geocachers' profiles when they log the coin. Originally, there was one icon. Later, there were custom icons. Today, there are hundreds of custom icons and many geocachers like to collect profile icons as much as they like to find geocaches.

Geocoin Online Trading |

 Serious about geocoin collecting? Then you should seriously think about joining an online trading site. After comparing the two most active sites, I selected geocoincollection.com as my home base for trading. Why? Because the coin database is so much more user-friendly. It works the way I expect a database of this sort to work: Search for a coin, see the coins. Click the coins you want, find out who has them, who is trading them, and who is looking for them.
Once you have a membership on the site, you can maintain your collection, but most importantly you can maintain your own trading list, and a wish list of coins you are looking for. Then, just like an internet dating site, geocoincollection.com brings coin traders together. Using the site, I have traded coins with geocachers around the world.
